Readers of the Colorado Springs Gazette and Independent newspapers voted Phil Best Male Singer and Best Folksinger for two years running. And in 2002, Phil won the Peak Area Performance and Artists Award (PAPA) in the Popular Music category.

Phil is experienced in the recording studio with nine CD releases, and session work on many others. Several of his instrumentals have been featured on National Public Radio broadcasts and have been used in film and commercials internationally.

Phil Volan earned his reputation as a world-class fingerstyle guitarist from the Rocky Mountain region over some thirty years. He earned 2nd place at the prestigious National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship in Winfield, Kansas.(Follow the links to contest archives 2002.) 

He has performed with or opened for such well-known artists as Suzi Boggus, Phil Keaggy, Chuck Pyle, Tom Paxton, Tuck & Patty, David Bromberg, Bryan Bowers, Pat Donohue, Jonatha Brooke, Wind Machine, Acoustic Eidolon, Chris Proctor, John Stewart, and John Gorka. For several years, Phil partnered with popular singer/songwriter Joe Uveges. (see recordings.)

Phil can play an evening of all-instrumentals or all vocals. The same is true along with duo partner Joleen Bell. They also perform as a trio or quartet adding bass, banjo, mandolin and fiddle featuring Charlie Hall or Luke Tripp among others.
